Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

A. In Miami.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

A. Just once, on Episode 5 (of Season 1), "Love American Style".

 In that episode, Dexter's co-worker, 'Angel Batista' (played by David Zayas), gets drunk after a night of partying, so Angel drives him home and carries his semi-conscious friend into the house.

But just then, Angel's wife appears and tells Dexter that she and Angel are separated and that Angel is no longer welcome in the house.  So Dexter carries him back out again.

Q. What is it actually in real life?

A. An actual house, but far from Miami.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

A. The house is actually at 2421 Chatwin Ave, in Long Beach, California.

It's on the west side of Chatwin (the third house south of Vernon Street), in a residential Long Beach neighborhood known as 'Los Altos'.

The same house (mostly the interior) was used in the scene of Curtis Brown's house.


That's right next door to (south of) the house seen as Dexter's childhood home (when you face the house, Dexter's former home is the next house to the right).

Both houses are just two streets west of Rita's home.

The majority of location filming for "Dexter", especially in the first two seasons, was done in Long Beach.

This Los Altos neighborhood contains at least six different homes used on the TV show, including Rita's house, Dexter's childhood home, the house of the neighbor with the noisy dog, the Dade City house that Dexter inherits from his biological father, and the house of the old lady across the street.

It's also close to the intersection where the "Ice Truck Killer" stopped his car to check on his captive (Debra) in the car trunk.

The neighborhood is located just south of the San Diego (405) Freeway, and just east of Bellflower Blvd (and north of 23rd Street), in upper Long Beach.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

A. I already knew the location of Dexter's Childhood home.
When I went there to shoot a photo of that house, Angel's home was right next door, and I recognized it. I shot a photo of it as well, and later compared it to screenshots from the show, to make sure, and it matched perfectly. Later, when looking at the episode again, I realized that the house number (2421) is briefly visible on the porch in the scene where Dexter carries Angel out of the house.
