Dexter Filming Locations: Angel Driving Trans-Am

DEXTER Filming Locations - hundreds of actual places where the TV show Dexter was filmed.

The location: Angel Driving Firebird Trans Am

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. A public street.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. Somewhere in Miami.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. In Episode 3, of Season 6, "Smokey and the Bandit".

This is a very short scene, at the end of the episode - part of a montage of short scenes about a search for meaning.

In this scene, we see Angel Batista happily driving his "new" 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am (the same model seen in "Smokey & the Bandit", hence the episode's title).

We were introduced to this car in an earlier scene, the one where the police find the hooker's body under a bridge.  At the time, Angel tells Dexter that when he was young, this was his dream car.

So when we see Angel driving the car, we realize that he is attempting to live out a youthful fantasy.
As Angel revs his engine, Dexter's voiceover says "We all want life to have some kind of meaning.  It seems like the older we get, the harder we look for it."

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A public street.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. This brief scene was shot on the 5900 block of Fountain Avenue, just east of Gordon Street, in Hollywood, CA.

The camera is looking east up Fountain, while Angel drives west on the street.

(That glowing building at the end of the street is Le Conte Middle School.)

It's right next to the Sunset-Gower Studio where Dexter is filmed.

And it's near a great many previous locations, ranging from Doakes' apartment in Season One to Nick's house in this season 6.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

    A.  Since this was a very generic scene, any street would do.  So I figured they would stay close to the studio.  I used Google StreetView to check the local streets, looking for that triangular "Yield" sign on the left, and that odd glowing building at the end of the street (which turned out to be, surprisingly, a junior high school).  I found it rather quickly, right next to the studio.
