The location: Abduction of the "Whore Of Babylon"

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. A parking lot.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. Somewhere in Miami.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. In Episode 5, of Season 6, "The Angel of Death".

Earlier, Travis and Professor Gellar had gone to a South Beach nightclub, looking for a woman to abduct for use in their upcoming "Whore of Babylon" tableau.

But when Gellar's photo appeared on the front page of the newspaper, he decided to lay low, and sent Travis out to do it alone.

Travis tried to abduct a drunken woman at a marina, but was forced to flee when witnesses foiled his attempt.

So, in this scene, Gellar is back with Travis.  They are sitting in a car, at night, in a parking lot, looking at party-goers pass by.

Gellar selects one young couple as his target. When Travis hesitates, Gellar pushes the car's gas pedal to the floor, sending the car crashing into the couple.

At Gellar's prompting, Travis gets out, lifts the stunned woman (Holly Benson) into his arms, and puts her in his car's trunk.

Gellar remarks to him: "See how easy it is?"

( Travis later has second thoughts, and in Episode 6, "Just Let Go", he sets the captive woman free at a beach.

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A parking lot, but not in Florida.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

A. They filmed this scene in the parking lot of Shoreline Village (a nautical-themed shopping/dining village built around a marina).

Shoreline Village is also where they filmed the earlier nightclub scene, the Tallahassee bar scene with Quinn, and the scene where Travis failed in his first abduction attempt.

The address of the Village is 429 Shoreline Village Drive, in Long Beach, CA.  But in more practical terms, the Village is on the south side of Shoreline Drive, across from the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

To be more precise, this particular scene was shot on the south side of the Village's paid parking lot, which is behind (south of) the gastropub where they shot the bar and nightclub scenes: "33 Degrees - Harborside Pub".

Gellar's car was parked facing south, near the back of the "Pirate's Cove" shop (it's #35 on this Village's map).

Meanwhile, the couple seen walking is farther to the south, in the same lot. They are walking west, near the palm tree-studded divider that separates the south edge of the parking lot from the breakwater road beyond.

They've used various parts of this Shoreline Village parking lot before.

In Season 2, they filmed a scene of Doakes & LaGuerta on a stakeout, but in the east end of this same lot.  And later in that season, they shot a scene of Dexter spotting a Fed outside of Lila's bar, just a bit farther west than this shot, near Parker's Lighthouse restaurant.

I shot the photos below in November 2011.

(The camera is looking north, from the parking lot where they filmed the scene.)

Here is an aerial photo of the lot, with the approximate locations marked.  And here is a map link.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

Since they had shot three other scenes here at Shoreline Village that night, I figured they probably shot the parking lot scene here as well.  So I started trying to find clues in the shots.  It wasn't easy.  The scenes are dark, and don't show much detail.

Worse, they put up a virtual wall of palm trees & plants (plus a blue trash dumpster) behind Gellar's car, to block whatever was behind it, so it's difficult to pinpoint the exact parking spot.

However, I found one big clue.  Behind the car, if you look closely, you can spot the peaked tile roof of a blue building, sticking up above the wall of palms.

Here's a blow-up of the screenshot showing that blue roof, a similar peak behind it, and a black stovepipe:

So I went to the Village in person to track down that roof.

Only one building at Shoreline Village matches (note the black stovepipe & the tiny lights):

That blue building currently houses a shop called "Pirate's Cove".

Here's the full photo I shot of it

By lining up the two peaked roofs, I could tell that they were in the parking lot, south of,
and just slightly to the right (east) of that Pirate's Cove building.

Meanwhile, I was able to match the palm trees & bushes on the divider at the parking lot's southern edge,
with the screencaps of the couple walking, which allowed me to determine that they were walking west.

Here's a shot of that divider, looking south:
