Seeing Stars: the Television Studios..

NBC STUDIOS
3000 West Alameda Avenue,
Burbank, CA. / (818) 840-3537 or (818) 840-4444

In 2007, NBC reported that the studio will leave "beautiful downtown Burbank", the historic studio where Johnny Carson and Jay Leno taped "The Tonight Show" and Bob Hope taped his annual specials.

NBC is planning to sell the land (34 acres in all) and will reportedly relocate its facilities to a new, state-of-the-art facility planned for Universal City, just north of Universal Studios Hollywood, near the existing Red Line station. (Universal is owned by NBC.) The new headquarters (to be called "The West Coast News Headquarters") won't be finished until 2011, so NBC will probably lease back some of the studio space until their new facilities are ready for prime time.

"The Tonight Show", will reportedly move to Stage 1 at Universal Studios Hollywood.

The bottom line: You had better hurry if you want to take the NBC Studio Tour...

NBC Studios in Burbank is the only network TV studio which offers a guided tour. For more information about the tour, see separate page about tours.

The National Broadcasting Company (NBC) is the pioneer network that gave us Milton Berle, "Bonanza," "Dragnet," "Rowan & Martin's Laugh In," "Sanford & Son," "Cheers," "Wings," "Seinfeld," the annual Bob Hope specials, Johnny Carson's "Tonight Show" and the Huntley & Brinkley news team. Not to mention the famous NBC peacock logo. Elvis Presley even taped his Christmas special here at this Burbank studio, in 1968.

In the early 2000's NBC was the hottest network on the air, with hits such as "Seinfeld," "Friends," "Frasier," "The West Wing," "Mad About You," "Just Shoot Me," "Third Rock from the Sun," "Caroline In The City" "NewsRadio," "Suddenly Susan, " and the NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw.

However, most of those shows have run out of steam, and NBC is now trailing in the ratings race again - in the last week of January 2006, it didn't have a single show in the Top Ten ratings.

But it continues to entertain & inform us with high-rated shows such as "Will & Grace," "Law & Order," "Crossing Jordan," "Scrubs," "My Name is Earl," "Fear Factor," "ER," "Dateline" and, of course "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno", the #1 talk show.

For more information about getting tickets to the tapings of NBC shows, see the separate page about tickets.

Getting there: NBC Studios is located in Burbank, bordered by the Ventura (134) Freeway (on the south), Alameda Avenue (on the north), California Street (on the west), and Bob Hope Drive (on the east). / From the Ventura (134) Freeway east, take the Bob Hope Drive offramp; turn left (north) on Bob Hope Drive (go back under the freeway), then turn left again (west) on Warner Street.

(Incidentally, Bob Hope's house is just a few blocks down the street, at 10346 Moorpark Street, and Johnny Carson Park is directly across the street!)
