Depending upon your outlook, the cupcakes sold at Sprinkles are either the most expensive cupcakes you're likely to come across, or the most inexpensive luxury in Beverly Hills. It's not every day that you'll find a single cupcake selling for $3.25, but it's also not every day that you can find celebrities lining up for something that costs less than $5, just two blocks away from Rodeo Drive. Sprinkles opened in mid 2005, in a small, 500 square foot storefront on Little Santa Monica Blvd., and almost immediately became a hit with the stars. Barbra Streisand sent the Sprinkles cupcakes to Oprah Winfrey and Oprah was crazy about them, and shared them with her show's studio audience. Jimmy Kimmel saw the cupcakes on Oprah's show, and actually stood in line himself for 45 minutes to buy $80 worth of them. Tyra Banks says she's addicted to them. Katie Holmes says just thinking about them makes her salivate. Teri Hatcher served them during a birthday bash for the cast of her hit show, "Desperate Housewives", and fellow cast member Marcia Cross raved about the red velvet cupcakes. Jake Gyllenhaal is a fan. So are Courtney Cox, Paris Hilton, Jessica Alba, Lucy Liu and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. And so is Jennifer Love Hewitt, who serves them to her "Ghost Whisperer" cast & crew. Sprinkles has about 20 different flavors of cupcakes (10 of them on sale on any given day), including lemon, pumpkin, orange, vanilla, carrot, chocolate, banana, and those infamous red velvet cupcakes. Sprinkles' cupcakes feature "a high frosting-to-cake ratio". And in fact, If you want, you can get a small shot of just pure frosting for 75 cents. Sprinkles made special cupcakes for the Oscars (topped with small stars), and special flourless cupcakes for Passover (with silver icing and a blue star on top). And since this is L.A., there's also a Chai Latte cupcake. They even have special "doggie cupcakes" for man's best friend. And they're expanding. They
recently opened a second Sprinkles shop in Newport Beach (in The
O.C.) , and are eyeing the rest of the country... [For
