across the street from the former Roxbury site on the Sunset
Strip, is a shabby-chic, late-night spot catering to young stars such
as Matt Dillon ("There's Something
About Mary"), Shannen Doherty
("Charmed"), Jodie Foster
("Silence of the Lambs"), Christina Applegate
("Jesse"), Tori Spelling,
director John Waters, and singers
like Madonna, Billy Idol,
and the ageless Mick Jagger (who
hosted a party here for fellow singer Donovan).
Shock Rocker Marilyn Manson hosted his own bizarre party at Union following the 1998 MTV Music Awards.
Some stars prefer a bit privacy in the back room,
reached via a bookcase (near the cash register) which rotates to reveal
a hidden section of the restaurant. The food served at Union is
Caribbean, the tables decked out in white linen, and the clientele is a
bit better-behaved than at some other clubs on the Strip. Open Wednesday
through Saturday, from 7 PM on.
