Seeing Stars: Where the Stars Play:

8210 Sunset Boulevard,
West Hollywood, CA. /
(213) 654-1001

Alas, Union has closed.

Its former space has since been home to a number of clubs with names such as "Corona Cantina" and "The Falls". At last look, it was occupied by a new club called "Wet Lounge", which featured an outdoor patio with a 20-foot waterfall, and a dark interior with a large salt-water aquarium, 20 flat screen televisions, and three bars. The current phone number there is (323) 656-9388.

I will leave this page up for a while for anyone interested in reading about Union, but bear in mind that the article below was written while Union was thriving.

Union, across the street from the former Roxbury site on the Sunset Strip, is a shabby-chic, late-night spot catering to young stars such as Matt Dillon ("There's Something About Mary"), Shannen Doherty ("Charmed"), Jodie Foster ("Silence of the Lambs"), Christina Applegate ("Jesse"), Tori Spelling, director John Waters, and singers like Madonna, Billy Idol, and the ageless Mick Jagger (who hosted a party here for fellow singer Donovan).

Shock Rocker Marilyn Manson hosted his own bizarre party at Union following the 1998 MTV Music Awards.

Some stars prefer a bit privacy in the back room, reached via a bookcase (near the cash register) which rotates to reveal a hidden section of the restaurant. The food served at Union is Caribbean, the tables decked out in white linen, and the clientele is a bit better-behaved than at some other clubs on the Strip. Open Wednesday through Saturday, from 7 PM on.

Getting there: The club is located on the former site of the legendary Garden of Allah. It's on the south side of the Strip, between Havenhurst Drive & Harper Ave., across from the Chateau Marmont, near the Dudley Do-Right Emporium.
