![]() The Tate Farmhouse / Malia's House ![]() In Episode 13 of Season 3 ("Anchors"), Stiles' father (the Sheriff) reopens an old case. Now that he knows about the supernatural goings-on in Beacon Hills, what he had once assumed to be just a fatal auto accident, now looks like it might have been a werewolf attack. The "accident" killed a mother and her daughter, while the youngest daughter, Malia Tate, was never seen again. The authorities thought a coyote was probably responsible. ![]() So, the Sheriff goes to the Tate home, where he speaks with Malia's father. Mr. Tate doesn't want to hear about the possibility that it was a murder, since he has only recently managed to reconcile himself with the accidental death. ![]() While the Sheriff talks to Mr. Tate, Scott and Stiles sneak into the house to see if Scott can pick up a scent that might help the Sheriff crack the case. Instead, they are met by the family Rottweiler, which holds them off, and the scent of which messes with Scott's ability to smell anything else. ![]() Later, when Scott & Stiles investigate the accident scene, they not only find werewolf claw marks on the overturned car, they also run into a werewolf - or in this case, a werecoyote. Scott chases it, and discovers that might be Malia Tate, the missing little girl. In the next episode, Scott manages to turn Malia back into a human and returns the (now teenage) girl to her father, at this house. This house is actually located at a horse ranch named JMJ Ranch at 930 W Potrero Road, in Thousand Oaks, CA. Thousand Oaks is located west of the San Fernando Valley, and just west of Agoura Hills. It is technically located in Ventura County, but still falls within the 30-mile Hollywood limit. A lot of filming has been done at the ranch, including movie such as Private School and Hot Shots Part Deux, as well TV shows like Dallas, Knots Landing, and Picket Fences. Here are two matching photos from the JMJ Ranch website: The top photo shows the exterior of the house, while the bottom photo shows the bedroom that Scott and Stiles were searching. Here is a Google StreetView panorama of the ranch's gate: Here is an aerial photo. And here is a map link. ![]() |
