Marvel's Agents of SHIELD

The Southern California locations where Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is filmed.

Episode 12, of Season 2 ("Who You Really Are")

The episode opens with a night scene at a beach, where six young people are
talking & roasting marshmallows over a campfire.

A caption tells us it's a beach in
Faro, Portugal.  It isn't.

The people on the beach are surprised when a woman (who turns out
to be Thor's very own Lady Sif) walks out of the surf.

She seems to have amnesia and doesn't remember who she is.  She asks about "Kava",
and when the people on the beach don't know what she's talking about, she walks away.
When one guy follows her, and makes the mistake of touching her, she turns and attacks him.

The same location is seen later, at 14:00, when Sif returns to the beach, or to be more
specific, to a pier on the same beach.  Coulson and his crew have found a video online
showing Sif battling some unknown opponent (a Kree hunter) - and losing.

Knowing Sif as they do, they realize that whoever he is, he's dangerous.

So Coulson and his S.H.I.E.L.D. agents visit the pier, with Sif,  to investigate what happened.

They walk out onto a pier, where there's a sign reading "Cais da Gidade" (City Pier, in Portuguese).

But being there again doesn't jog Sif's memory.

Both scenes were shot on or near the pier at Paradise Cove, in Malibu, CA.

Paradise Cove's is a short pier, not particularly well-known by most,
unlike the larger Malibu Pier (about seven miles to the east).

You'll find it just southeast of Point Dume (which can be seen in the background),
at
28128 Pacific Coast Highway, next to the Paradise Cove Beach Cafe.

The early beach scene, where Lady Sif walks out of the surf, was shot on the
small beach just east of the pier, while the scenes of the team investigating
what happened there were shot on the pier itself.

In real life, this is a very plain, virtually bare pier.

All of the carts, booths, banners, lamps, and other colorful items
seen in the scene were added by the set decorators.

This is a private beach, and for a while the public wasn't admitted without paying
a $40 parking fee. The Coastal Commission put an end to that in 2014 -
for walk-ins & surfers, at least.

So it is now open to the public. But if you want to park there, you'll still pay
that $40 fee. However, if you spend more than $30 in the restaurant,
they will validate four hours of parking, dropping the parking price
to a far more reasonable $6.

Paradise Cove itself was featured as the key locale in the popular TV series,
"The Rockford Files", in which the lead character, detective Jim Rockford,
(played by James Garner) lived in his trailer on the beach.

(And while you wouldn't expect it in Malibu, there actually is a trailer park
just above the pier.  What you might expect, however, is that the
average mobile home there goes for over $2 million.
)

Other TV shows filmed at Paradise Cove include Baywatch, The O.C., Charmed,
Angel, Alias, Charlie's Angels, The A-Team, Columbo, Dallas, Dynasty,
Gidget, Knight Rider, and Sea Hunt,

Movies shot here include American Pie 2, Indecent Proposal, Carousel,
Back to the Beach, and The Creature from the Black Lagoon
,
