Marvel's Agents of SHIELD

The Southern California locations where Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is filmed.

Episode 14, of Season 2 ("Love in the Time of Hydra")

23:41: S.H.I.E.L.D. is still trying to figure out what to do about Skye, now that she
has acquired her potentially-destructive quake powers.

So Coulson flies "The Bus" to an isolated log cabin, out in the woods, next to a lake.

He tells Skye that this was one of Fury's old retreats.

But when she questions that, he tells her that it's a safehouse for people with powers.
He says that even Steve Rogers spent time here.

She asks "Safe for people with powers, or safe for everyone else?", to which Coulson replies "Both."

He reassures her that she can stay connected to S.H.I.E.L.D. online, and that
May will drop by every few days to make sure that she's okay.

But it's clear that Skye is worried, and that Coulson doesn't feel right
about isolating her from the team and treating her like a threat.

Update: the same cabin and forest show up in the next episode: Episode 15, "One Door Closes".
(In fact, it's the only real location in that episode - there are no new locations in Episode 15.)

The "real S.H.I.E.L.D." forces attempt to capture Skye at the cabin. But May warns Skye that
they are coming, and she flees into the woods, where Gordon teleports her away to safety.

And the same woods & cabin show up once again in Episode 16, "Afterlife", when Coulson
and Lance take refuge there and lure the
"real S.H.I.E.L.D." forces into a trap.

This scene was shot at Disney's Golden Oak Ranch,
at 19802 Placerita Canyon Road, in Newhall, CA.

That log cabin is one of their permanent rural sets, and the lake
it's next to is called "Pine Lake" (for obvious reasons).

Here's a photo of Pine Lake, from their website:

Newhall is in the hills north of the San Fernando Valley, about five miles southeast of
Six Flags Magic Mountain, and about 30 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.

The Disney Company has operated this movie ranch for ages.

Back in the days of the original Mickey Mouse Club (in the late 1950's), they
shot "Spin & Marty" and "Zorro" here, and have since filmed everything from
"Old Yeller" to "Pirates of the Caribbean" at the ranch.

With recent expansion, they have renamed the place "Disney Studios at the Ranch".

And since Disney makes the show, owns the ABC network that broadcasts it,
and even owns Marvel Studio, this ranch is a logical choice.

They've shot several other S.H.I.E.L.D. scenes, previously, at the ranch, mostly when
they need to simulate a forest, farm or other rural environment - including scenes set
in Wrigley, Pennsylvania, Batesville, Utah, Wyoming, Canada and Colorado.
