"Desperate Housewives" star, actress Eva Longoria, opened her own restaurant in 2008.
It's also right on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (between the stars of Elizabeth Taylor and Lassie). About the location, Eva says ""I live literally down the street, so I could walk here every night." The opening night party at Beso brought out 'Gabrielle's fellow Housewives stars Nicollette Sheridan ('Edie'), Felicity Huffman ('Lynette'), Dana Delaney ('Katherine'), James Denton ('Mike'), Ricardo Chivara ('Carlos') and Kyle MacLachlan ('Orson'). Also at the March 7th party were
George Lopez
("The George Lopez Show"), Paula Abdul
& Ryan Seacrest
(from "American Idol"), actor William H. Macy,
Mario Lopez
(from "Saved By the Bell" & "Dancing With
the Stars", and singers Sheryl Crow
and Michael Bolton. More recently, they've seen Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie, and Courtney Cox. Eva (who is married to San Antonio
Spurs guard Tony Parker) says she cooks a lot - something confirmed
by her friends, and claims "I make the best guacamole in the
world. And I am renowned for my tortilla soup."
But Eva has also paired up with award-winning, celebrity chef Todd English of the restaurant Olives, who stars in the TV shows "Cooking With Todd English" and "Food Trip with Todd English". (He has his own website at toddenglish.com.) And rather than just lending her name to the place, Eva has really gotten involved in putting the restaurant together. According to her ET interview: "I picked every fabric, I picked the stitching, I picked the chairs, I helped create the menu, I picked the uniforms... Todd & I did the architectural design together..." So, what does Beso look like? Gold beaded chandeliers, framed mirrors and gold satin drapes lend bursts of color to the overall theme of dark woods & brown leather. As expected, there is also a large bar. A two story location, an upstairs lounge overlooks the main dining room below (which is probably where they'll hide their celebrity guests). Besides Eva's tortilla soup and guacamole, the menu features what the Times calls a "Latin/Middle Eastern/Mediterranean fusion", and includes paella, drunken shrimp, specialty tacos, skirt steak in an Arabic bread salad, a yellowtail ceviche in coconut milk, steaks (with a choice of BBQ sauce or an Argentinian chimichurri sauce), and whole fish (with a choice of Tunisian hot red sauce or lemon jam). In 2014, the pilot for the sitcom "Mixology" was filmed at Beso.
