Q.
What is it supposed to be on the show?
Q.
Where is it supposed to be on the show?
Q.
When did we see it on the show?
A. In Episode 12, the finale of Season 7, "Surprise, Motherf**ker!"
Dexter had captured Hector Estrada, the man who ordered the murder of his mother, and was about to kill him, when he was surprised by LaGuerta. In the process, Estrada escaped.
But Dexter was still looking for him, so he went to his ex-wife's apartment. She denied knowing his whereabouts.
But in this scene, Dexter has followed the wife to a public park, where he sees her rendezvous with her ex, Estrada.
After
watching Estrada dozing on a park bench, Dexter becomes impatient, and
bribes two kids to throw a ball at him. Estrada chases the kids
right into Dexter's waiting embrace - and winds up unconscious in the back of
Dexter's car.
Q.
What is it actually in real life?
Q.
Where can I find it in real life?
A. This scene was shot at Marine Park, the park the runs along the edge of "Mother's Beach", on the northeast corner of Naples Island, in Long Beach, CA.
It's
between two bridges that lead onto the island: just northwest of the
2nd Street bridge, and the southeast of the Appian Way bridge.
There is a long parking lot that runs for most of the length of the park, and it's here where we see Dexter pull in and park.
The spot where he
actually drugs & abducts Estrada is next to a sidewalk and a
change machine near the center edge of that parking lot.

I shot the photos below on New Years Eve 2012.
Compare my photo above, with the screencap below:
( Looks like Dex was parked in the red.)
(That change machine is needed because the park's parking lot is filled with parking meters.)
And here's a wider shot, so you can get a better idea of the setting...
Here is an aerial
photo of the location. Here is a Bing StreetSide view. And here is a map
link.
They appear to have added a little extra landscaping, to get the Miami look they wanted.
They call it "Mother's Beach"
because its calm water has virtually no tide, and are therefore
thought to be safe for the kiddies.
But don't let the word "beach"
make you think this spot is on the ocean, because it isn't. Rather, it
faces the channel between Naples Island and the Alamitos Marina. (If
you want the actual ocean, just leave the island and head south a few blocks.)
Dexter has filmed at the park before, most notably a 1st Season scene of Cody on a swing set.
The shot (in this same episode) of Hannah's ambulance speeding to the hospital was shot on the nearby Appian Way bridge.
And earlier this season, they also shot right across the bridge, a few blocks away, for that scene of the burning bus. The location of the Frosty Swirl is also very close.
Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?
A. In the early seasons, I usually had to hunt down the locations after viewing the episodes,
using clues from the various scenes. By the now, though,
I've developed a small group of fans, spies & tipsters who kept an
eye out for Dexter filming in their neighborhoods, and would let me know
in advance when something was about to film there.
Between those reports, my own personal reconnaissance around town, and a
few new resources I discovered, by the time the first episode airs, I
already know most (but not all) of the filming locations, and only
need to watch the episodes and match up the scenes with the correct
locations.
This group of helpful fans includes Rick, Ellen, Elaine, Mia, Joel, Susan, Eric, Jeff, Kerry & others. My thanks to all of
them.
This tip came from Rick. (Thanks, Rick!)
