Dexter: Original Sin Filming Locations: Miguel Prado’s Apartment
The
location: Miguel Prado’s Apartment
Q.
What is it supposed to be on the show?
A. An apartment house.
Q.
Where is it supposed to be on the show?
A. In or near Miami, Florida.
Q.
When did we see it on the show?
A. We see this location in Episode 8, of Season 1.
Harry and LaGuerta are about to embark on a road trip to Tampa, Florida.
In
this scene, Harry stops to pick up LaGuerta at
this apartment house. We see her coming down the stairs from the top floor,
along with a young Hispanic man.
They stop to exchange a romantic kiss before going their separate ways.
Harry remarks that he thought she was the “married to the job type”.
She tells him the man's name is Miguel Prado, and that he's “delusional”,
because he thinks he's going to be the D.A. (district attorney).
Longtime Dexter fans will recognize that name, of course, as the Big Bad of Season 3 (of the original series).
In the original series, Miguel Prado is the
assistant district attorney who worms his way into Dexter's life, learns
his secret, briefly joins him in his vigilante escapades, but then
begins murdering indiscriminately, and is eventually dispatched by
Dexter just before he can kill LaGuerta herself.
Q.
What is it actually in real life?
A. An apartment house.
Q.
Where can I find it in real life?
A. This scene was filmed at 10720 Camarillo St, in North Hollywood.
Built in 1941, and sometimes referred to as “the Babylon Gardens”, this
two story, 6-unit apartment house is a good example of Streamline
Moderne architecture.
For the uninitiated, North Hollywood is not the north side of Hollywood. It is a
separate neighborhood, (sometimes referred to as “NoHo”), located on the
other side of the Hollywood Hills, in L.A.'s San Fernando Valley.
This apartment house is located about a mile northwest of Universal Studios Hollywood, and less than two miles northeast of the studio where they film the show.
Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?
A. Take a
close look at the scene and you will notice that when Prado and LaGuerta
reach the bottom of the stairway, the address number ( 10720 ) is on
the wall behind them. See the photo below:
