Dexter Filming Locations: the Family Murder House
The
location: The Family Murder Scene house
Q.
What is it supposed to be on the show?
A. A residential home.
Q.
Where is it supposed to be on the show?
A. In or near Miami, Florida.
Q.
When did we see it on the show?
A. In Episode 1 of Season 1.
Miami Metro’s forensics team enters a house at night, in the pouring
rain. Inside, they find the dead bodies of the entire Shapiro family, gunshot victims who have
been murdered by a lone intruder-robber.
Harry
Morgan notices that there is blood on a TV remote control which the
killer used to turn off the family’s television. He asks Masuka to run
it for fingerprints.
This eventually leads to the arrest of Levi Reed at his home.
The same house is seen again in Episode 6, when Dexter takes The killer, Levi Reed, back to the scene of the crime.
Q.
What is it actually in real life?
A. A residential home.
Q.
Where can I find it in real life?
A. This unusual 7,230 square foot house is located at 5120 Linwood Drive, in the Los Feliz section of Los Angeles, below Griffith Park.
It is located In the exclusive gated section of Los Feliz known as
Laughlin Park, which reportedly has been home to celebrities such
as W.C. Fields, Charlie Chaplin and Cecil B. DeMille.
Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?
A. This was
very tricky, because the only shot of the exterior of the home was at
night in the rain, and you can barely see anything of the house itself. I
was at a loss until I brightened the photo in Photoshop, and saw that
there was an unusual wavy upper story.
And then, in a scene
where Miami Metro Captain Spencer talks to his men, I spotted a photo on
the board behind him of the house.
