Dexter: Original Sin Filming Locations: Harry Morgan and Capt. Spencer at bar.
The
location: Harry & Capt. Spencer at bar
Q.
What is it supposed to be on the show?
A. A bar, one of Harry & Spencer's old haunts.
Q.
Where is it supposed to be on the show?
A. In or near Miami, Florida.
Q.
When did we see it on the show?
A. In
Episode 5 of Season 1, after Harry has screwed up a court case that
allowed the murderer, Levi Reed, to walk free on a technicality.
We see
Harry sitting in the dark bar, looking miserable, and nursing a drink,
when he is approached by Capt. Aaron Spencer, who joins him in the
booth.
Thinking
that Spencer is going to ask him for his badge, Harry hands it to him.
But Spencer gives it back, saying he has saved his job, but that as a
consequence, Harry’s off the kidnapping case, and will only be working
on lower-profile cases with LaGuerra.
Spencer
cautions him to never let it happen again, and turns to leave. Harry
stops him to say thank you. But once alone again, he orders a double
scotch.
Q.
What is it actually in real life?
A. A bar, but not in Florida.
Q.
Where can I find it in real life?
A. This scene was filmed at a cocktail bar known as The Grasshopper, located at 136 E. Anaheim Street, in Long Beach, CA.
That's at the southwest corner of Anaheim St. & Locust Ave.
It 's about a mile and a half northwest of the downtown Long Beach corner
where they filmed Dexter stalking Levi Reed in “Miami”.
A.
Fortunately, before the first episode even aired, there was an active
discussion going on (about filming in Long Beach) among the users on
Reddit. And a user named jeremiahwarren posted a comment that they had been filming at The Grasshopper, and had shut the bar down for a night for the shoot .
So I Googled for
images of the interior of The Grasshopper, and then kept an eye out for
that interior when I watched the series. Given its red leather booths
and is distinctive wallpaper, it wasn’t hard to spot. And it showed up
in Episode 5, in the scene where Harry gets reprimanded by Spencer.
