Dexter: Original Sin Filming Locations: Debra & Gio on Bimini

DEXTER: Original Sin Filming Locations - the actual places where the TV show Dexter: Original Sin was filmed.

The location: Debra & Gio on Bimini

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. A beach resort.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A.  On one of the Bimini islands of the Bahamas, 50 miles off the coast of Florida.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. We see these two Bimini scenes in Episode 8, of Season 1.

Debra & Gio are partying at what appears to be an island resort:  dining, dancing, making out, and getting high. Deb is having a great time with her rich boyfriend.

Gio had previously told her that he had to do a job for his father, picking up some sort of shipment on Bimini, and he invited her to come along.

But their fun is cut short when Deb notices men carrying a large container onto Gio's boat.

Gio tries to distract her by giving her a diamond bracelet, but her natural  inquisitiveness gets the best of her, and when she goes on board his boat she snoops and finds what appears to be a large shipment of illegal drugs.

He catches her in the act, becomes angry, and orders her off the boat.

Debra has no way to get home, and winds up sitting stranded on the dark beach, until she's finally rescued by Dexter.

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A public park and lagoon, but not in the Bahamas.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

A.  This scene was filmed In Florida, at Matheson Hammock Park & Marina.

The address is 9610 Old Cutler Road, in Coral Gables, which is about seven miles southwest of downtown Miami.

They shot these scenes next to the round lagoon inside the park's artificial atoll, and at the adjacent marina.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

Thanks to Miami Today, I knew way back in June 2024 that they were filming at two different Florida parks: Haulover Beach Park, and here at Matheson Hammock Park.  So I familiarized myself with both locations, and kept an eye out for when they appeared on the show.

Fortunately, both parks have very distinctive features that made them easy to recognize. Haulover Beach Park has towering condos in the background, while Matheson Hammock Park features a man-made atoll, which is very easy to spot:

In nature, an atoll is a circular, ring-shaped coral reef which protects a round lagoon inside it. This man-made version mimics that natural design, and features a round, calm lagoon/pool. The walkable, circular ring surrounding the lagoon (which measures about 350 feet in diameter, or a circumference of around 1,100 feet) is studded with palm trees, making it very easy to spot: just look across the water for a curving rim lined with a row of palm trees.

And you can clearly see it in the background of these “Bimini” beach scenes, including this night scene blow:
