| Q.
What is it supposed to be on the show?
Q.
Where is it supposed to be on the show?
A. In or near Miami, Florida.
Q.
When did we see it on the show?
A. In episode 9.
The scene begins inside a church hall, where a friendly game of bingo is underway.
We see that
Brian Moser, Dexter's bloodthirsty brother, has cozied up to a middle
aged woman named Barb (Barbara Plimpton) . She seems like a nice lady, but Brian is out for
vengeance.
It turns out that Barb was the counselor in charge of
Brian's adoption case back when the Morgans decided not to keep him, and
he unfairly blames her for separating him from his younger brother,
Dexter.
He is charming her, and she seems to be enjoying the attention from this younger man.
When the
game ends (with Brian winning the pot), Brian invites her out to celebrate at Applebee's, and she
accepts, accompanying him out to the parking lot where his van is
parked.
But that, of course, proves to be a fatal mistake.
Once alone in the parking lot, Brian brutally knocks her out and throws her in the back of his van.
And things only get a lot worse when she wakes up on a rooftop.
Q.
What is it actually in real life?
Q.
Where can I find it in real life?
A. This is the Long Beach Scottish Rite Masonic Temple, located at 855 Elm Ave, in Long Beach, CA.
Built in 1926, this is a Long Beach Historic Landmark.
The massive, blank wall which we see in the parking lot scene is actually the south side
of the temple.
And when Brian and Barb are walking towards the van,
they are walking east to west through the parking lot.

When I saw this scene, I couldn't be sure whether or not the interior of
the bingo hall was actually inside the large building that we
later see in parking lot, or whether that bingo room was simply a studio set.
But once I knew the location of the building, I was able to find
photos of the interior, and I discovered that the bingo game scene was
actually shot inside the Masonic Hall, in what is known as the Presidents Room
(which has portraits of the US presidents on its walls). The set
decorators swapped out those presidential portraits for other portraits
during the shoot, and added more tables & chairs, but fortunately, the room's unique red carpet is
unmistakable, and I spotted it quickly in this photo of the President's Room on the Masonic Temple site:

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?
A. This was a tip from Ben.
For some reason, I had gotten it into my head that this bingo hall was located near the studio
in the Valley, so I wasted an enormous amount of time looking for
it there, I never got around to checking Long Beach, which is usually
the first place I look when hunting for Dexter locations.
Fortunately, Ben did check Long Beach, and since there were tall
buildings visible in the background of that scene, and Long Beach
doesn't have that many tall buildings that aren't located on Ocean Blvd,
he was able to track it down, and let me know.
( Thanks, Ben! )
