The
location: The Murder on the Lawn. |
Q.
What is it supposed to be on the show?
A. A lawn -
and a murder scene. Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show? A. Somewhere
in Miami. Q. When did we see it on the show? A. In Episode 5 (of Season 3), "Turning Biminese". In this brief scene, we see the Miami Metro cops (Angel, Vince & Quinn) arrive at a murder scene. There are already Sheriff officers on the scene, and the area is roped off with the usual yellow tape. Angel informs his men that it's the Sheriff's turf, and that they're just there to observe. On the lawn, we see the dead body of a woman, face down, wearing a yellow dress. A large patch of skin has been removed from the back of her neck, leaving a bloody rectangle - a sure sign that she is another victim of "The Skinner". Angel asks Quinn why Vince is acting so differently: being polite, joking less, dressing better... Quinn replies that perhaps someone pointed out the error in his ways.
Q. What is it actually in real life? A. A lawn in front of a public building.
Q. Where can I find it in real life? A. This particular
lawn (with its green & red walls) is outside Pan Pacific
Park's Senior Activity Center, at 141 S. Gardner
Street,
in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles.
It's on the east edge of Pan Pacific Park (where they filmed Dexter's dream sequence in episode 2), and across the street from the home they used for the house-hunting scene in the same episode. It's
just a block east of Farmers Market
and The Grove, and a similar distance
to CBS TV City.
I
shot the photo below in 2009. (The camera is looking southwest.)
Here is an aerial photo with the lawn marked. And here is a map link.
Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was? A. This is one of those vague locations that is next to impossible to track down. All you can see in the scene is a grassy lawn, yellow police tape, a few trees, and a green wall. I didn't even want to try. Fortunately,
I got a much-needed tip from the same departed artist who let me know about
Rita's house-hunting scene.
