After Brother Sam is shot at his Good Shepherd garage, Dexter goes looking for his killer.
The most likely suspect is Leo Hernandez, who (after Dexter killed their original leader) took over the gang that had threatened Sam.
Dexter is seen sitting in his car, watching the house from afar. There is a loud party going on, so Dexter drives past.
The second
time, he watches Leo leave the house. But just then, the police
suddenly arrive, lights flashing. Leo goes for a gun, and the cops
shoot him dead, as Dexter watches.
Later, Dexter
shows up on the scene at the blood expert. He looks at Leo's
corpse and realizes that he doesn't feel any better now that Leo's dead.
Inside the house, they find the missing DVD from the security camera at Sam's garage, convincing them that Leo was Sam's killer.
But later,
when watching the video, Dexter realizes that Sam's dog didn't bark at
the gunman... And that the real killer must be Nick.

A. This house is at 977 N. St. Andrews Place, in Hollywood, CA.
This house is on the southwest corner of St. Andrews Place and Romaine Street.
For once, they gave out the real address on the show. Both Nick and Anderson mention that Leo's house is at the corner of St. Andrews & Romaine.

Since Dexter likes to
cluster-shoot, it's not surprising that this house is nearby two other
locations from this episode: the alley where Anderson "flamingoed" the junkiet, and Travis's sister Lisa's school.
It's also less than a mile southeast of the Sunset-Gower studio (where Dexter is filmed).
And it's just three blocks east of Hollywood Forever cemetery, where they filmed Rita's funeral (and scenes of Dexter digging up Miguel's victim).

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?
A. In previous seasons, I've
usually had to hunt down the locations after viewing the episodes,
using clues from the various scenes. By the 6th season, though,
I'd developed a small group of fans, spies & tipsters who kept an
eye out for Dexter filming in their neighborhoods, and would let me know
in advance when something was about to film there.
Between those reports, my own personal reconnaissance around town, and a
few new resources I discovered, by the time the first episode aired, I
already knew most (but not all) of the filming locations, and only
needed to watch the episodes and match up the scenes with the correct
locations.
This group of helpful fans includes Kerry, Rick, Ellen, Susan, Jason,
Elaine, Joel, Julie, Geoff, Jeff, Jen, and others. My thanks to all of
them.
