The
location: House Hunting. |
Q.
What is it supposed to be on the show?
A. A residential
home for sale. Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show? A. Somewhere
in Miami. Q. When did we see it on the show? A. In Episode 5 (of Season 3), "Turning Biminese": Dexter's pregnant girlfriend, Rita, is out house hunting with Miguel's wife, Syl (who is a real estate broker). We see them both coming out of the house, with Rita complaining about the size and the cabinets, and Syl asking her house the home felt to her.. Rita asks if she can use the bathroom in the house, and later emerges, looking distraught, and says she is bleeding. Syl offers to drive her to the nearby hospital, and they leave. ( Later, when they try to reach Dexter about the emergency, they find him missing, since he's out killing someone in Bimini. )
Q. What is it actually in real life? A. A residential home, but nowhere near Miami.
Q. Where can I find it in real life? A. This house is located at 120 S. Gardner Street, near the Fairfax District of Los Angeles. It's on the east side of the street, which is just one street east of Pan Pacific Park (where they filmed Dexter's dream sequence in episode 2). That's
just a block east of Farmers Market
and The Grove, and a similar distance
to CBS TV City. And
it's across the street from a building where they shot a murder scene for
the same episode. I
shot the photos below in 2009
Here is an aerial photo with the location marked. And here is a map link.
Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was? A. This house wasn't where I expected it to be. I looked in the usual Dexter haunts: Long Beach, San Pedro and Hollywood, but turned up nothing. Fortunately,
after finding the Pan Pacific Park location
(the dream sequence), I got a good tip that this house was on the street
next to the park. Knowing that, it was then easy to track it down using
Google StreetView. I then went to the block in person to shoot the
photos you see above.
