Q.
What is it supposed to be on the show?
A. A cluster of food trucks, at lunch time.
Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?
Q.
When did we see it on the show?
A. In Episode 6, of Season 8, "A Little Reflection".
Jamie has been trying to set up Dexter with new neighbor Cassie.
So in this scene, Dexter goes out on a semi-date with Cassie, to sample the wares of some local food trucks.
Alas,
Dexter's social skills haven't improved much over the years, and his
awkward attempt to make small talk is painful to watch, especially when
she asks him how he spends his free time...
Q. What is it actually in real life?
Q. Where can I find it in real life?
A. This large parking lot is on the northeast side of the 5400 block of E. Appian Way, where it meets Bay Shore Ave, in Long Beach, CA.
They simply brought in the food trucks and set up a few tables.
( Look closely, and you'll note that those food trucks are actually local L.A. trucks, including "Downtown Dogs", whose menu includes a dog called "Spicy Angeleno", and "The Lime Truck".)

It is the parking lot for the Long
Beach Marine Stadium, a long channel (next to the Alamitos Marina) which
has been the site of Olympic rowing events and water skiing.
That Appian Way bridge connects it to Mothers Beach park on the island (where they filmed the scene of the Yoga class this season).
This lot is at the northwest end
of the small Appian Way bridge that leads from Naples Island over the
channel, to the mainland. The lot sits where the mainland juts out
over the northwest part of Naples.
They've use the spot before. It was under that bridge that Doakes killed a man in Season One. And Vogel's house is just a block and a half to the east on Bay Shore Ave. This spot is also close to the parks where Harrison played soccer this season, and where they found the body of the first victim of the Brain Surgeon killer.
Here is an aerial
photo of the location. Here is a Google StreetView. And here is a map
link.
Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?
A. In the early seasons, I
usually had to hunt down the locations after viewing the episodes, using
clues from the various scenes. By the now, though, I've developed
a small group of fans, spies & tipsters who kept an
eye out for Dexter filming in their neighborhoods, and let me know in advance when something is about to film there.
Between those reports, my own personal reconnaissance around town, and a
few new resources I discovered, by the time the new first episode airs, I
already know most (but not all) of the filming locations, and only
need to watch the episodes and match up the scenes with the correct
locations.
This group of helpful fans includes Rick, Ellen, Suzi, Elaine, Mia,
Julie, Kerry, Joel, Eric, Jeff, & others. My thanks to all of them.
This tip came from Rick. (Thanks, Rick!).
