Dexter: Resurrection Filming Locations: Dexter picks up Dark Passenger killer.

DEXTER: Resurrection Filming Locations - the actual places where the TV show Dexter: Resurrection was filmed.

The Location
: Dexter picks up Dark Passenger killer.

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

A. A street curbside where Dexter, as a rideshare driver,  picks up a passenger.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

A.  At Rockefeller Center, in  New York City.

Q. When did we see it on the show?
A. We see this location in Episode 3 of Season 1 of Resurrection.

Dexter has learned that Ron Schmidt, AKA “The Dark Passenger” killer, will be working at Rockefeller Center that day, and Dexter assumes that when it gets off work, he will be looking to kill another rideshare driver.

So as a rideshare driver, Dexter goes there at night and waits for Schmidt to hail an UrCar.

Sure enough, the killer gets into Dexter's car and promptly attacks him, looping a sharp wire garrot around his neck from behind, and ordering him to take a specific route.

Dexter had come equipped with his usual hypodermic of M99, planning to inject the killer to escape the trap.  But those plans go awry when Dexter accidentally drops the needle into the space between seats, and he is unable to easily reach it.

The killer taunts him that he is going to die , and asks him who will miss him when he's gone.

Eventually, Dexter has had enough of this, and strains against the garrot to reach the fallen hypodermic. The killer tries furiously too slash Dexter's throat with the saw-like wire, but to no avail . Dexter reaches the needle and injects the killer, rendering him unconscious. It is then revealed that Dexter had taken the precaution of putting a metallic band around his neck (under his turtleneck sweater), so that the killer was unable to cut his throat.

Q. What is it actually in real life?

A. This is actually Rockefeller Center.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

A. The camera is looking west up 50th Street, at approximately 33 W 50th St., in Manhattan.
That is in front of Rockefeller Plaza, which is on the south side of 50th Street, between 5th Ave & 6th Ave.

So Dexter is driving east on the south side of 50th St when he pulls over in front of Rockefeller Plaza to pick up the fare.

His stopping point is about 400 feet east of Radio City Music Hall, and just west of the twin crosswalks.

Once they start driving, they pass an ornate church. This is the famous St Patrick's cathedral. When they pass the church, they are  driving east on E 50th Street, just past 5th Ave.

Here is a matching StreetView the curb outside of Rockefeller Plaza:

Here is an aerial photo of the location.  And here is a map link.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

A. Fortunately, earlier in the episode , Dexter phones Schmidt's employer and is told that he will be at Rockefeller Center that night.

So I knew that the scene was supposed to be set at Rockefeller Center. My only task was to check the scene and make certain that it was really   shot there, by comparing it with StreetView shots of the actual Rockefeller Center . Naturally, they matched.

( And it didn't hurt that a red, glowing sign in the background read “Radio City”.)
