Dexter Filming Locations: Andrew Briggs' Pink Motel

DEXTER Filming Locations - hundreds of actual places where the TV show Dexter was filmed.

The location: Andrew Briggs' Pink Motel

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. A motel called "The Pink Motel".

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. In Broward, Florida.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. In Episode 1, of Season 8, "A Beautiful Day".

In fact, you see it a lot in that episode.

We first see it when we witness Debra in Briggs' motel room, snorting Coke, having sex with Briggs, and generally spiraling out of control.

We see the room later, when a fence, "El Sapo", shows up and talks to Briggs about buying stolen goods.

But we don't see the exterior of the motel until Dexter arrives.  Dex has found out that "El Sapo" is a hit-man, not a fence, and that he intends to kill Briggs.  So Dex is there to get Debra out of harm's way.

But things don't work out that way.  Debra stubbornly refuses to leave, and when Briggs intervenes and goes for a knife, Dexter kills him.

Debra still refuses to leave, and instead calls the cops and reports that she just came back to the room and found him dead.

Meanwhile, Dexter manages to temporarily lose Harrison, whom he had in his car.  He quickly finds him safe, but manages to get Briggs' blood on Harrison's stuffed animal.

As Debra finally leaves the motel, we see that the hit-man, "El Sapo" is watching her.

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A motel called "The Pink Motel".

(How's that for truth in adverting?)

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. "The Pink Motel" is located at 9457 San Fernando Road, in Sun Valley, CA.

That's in the northeast part of the San Fernando Valley, about three miles northeast of Burbank, south of the Hansen Dam.

It's not exactly a great part of town...

Dating back to 1946, this unique little motel has appeared in a number of films and TV shows, including 2004's "The Whole Ten Yards" (with Bruce Willis & Matthew Perry), TV's "The O.C.", and "House of Sand & Fog".

But unlike some places that have shut have down and become just a filming location, this place is still open for business as a motel. (Or at least it was the last time I checked.)

Their phone number is (818) 767-3605.

Here is an aerial photo of the motel.   And here is a map link.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

    A.  I discovered the Pink Motel back when I was finding locations for the show "The O.C.".  The motel played a cheap motel in episode 14 of season 2.  And if that wasn't enough, Dexter used the hotel in their very first season.  It played the motel where an Ice Truck copycat killer was busted (with a tied-up hooker in his room).  And once you've seen this place, it's hard to miss.
