The
location: The Aquarium. |
![]() A. An aquarium.
Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show? A. Somewhere
in or near Miami.
Q. When did we see it on the show? A. In the Season Two finale, Episode 12: "The British Invasion". After
crazy Lila kills Doakes, she has Dexter meet her at a public place, an
aquarium. As they stand before a huge, blue tank filled with swimming fish, she reveals to Dexter that she knows his secret. He tells her that he knows she's an unfeeling psychopath, just like him. Believing that they share something special in common, and assuming it means he wants her, Lila kisses Dexter, and he plays along, returning the kiss. They continue to kiss, in public, drawing disapproving looks from other guests, until a security guard makes them stop. As
they stroll past a walk-through fish tank, she tells him how & why
she killed Doakes. It's clear that she plans to use his secret as a way
of guaranteeing his affection. He tells her he will be leaving town,
and she asks to come with him. (He's actually planning to kill her, and
wants to make it look like she voluntarily disappeared.)
Q. What is it actually in real life? A. An actual
aquarium, but not in Miami.
Q. Where can I find it in real life? A. It is the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific, located off Shoreline Drive, near the south end of the Long Beach Freeway. The official address is 100 Aquarium Way, in Long Beach, CA. But Aquarium Way is a side street. It's actually located just off the 200 block of Shoreline Drive. To get there,
just take the Long Beach (710) Freeway south, stay to the left on
the 710, and exit on the Shoreline Drive exit. Then stay to the right on
Shoreline, and you'll find the Aquarium parking lot on your right side,
just before you reach that unique, roller coaster-shaped pedestrian bridge
that spans Shoreline Drive. It's across the street from the Pike, and less
than half a mile northwest of Shoreline Village. That big, blue tank full of tropical fish (that Dexter & Lila were standing in front of) is located on the second (top) floor, to the right of the main entrance, in the northwest corner of the Aquarium. Here is an aerial
photo of the aquarium. And here is a map
link. (I shot the photos below in 2008)
Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was? A. For me, this
was the easiest location ever. I have an annual pass to the Long Beach
Aquarium of the Pacific, so I recognized it the minute I saw it.
