The location: Burton Chase Park.

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. The slip where Jimmy docks his boat.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. In Newport harbor.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. In the background of the scenes where we see Jimmy aboard his boat (Slow Dance) in the marina.

Most notably, in Episode 4 (of season two), "The New Era", in which Jimmy talks with Hailey on the boat.

And, it turns out, the park's parking lot was also the location of the infamous Ferris Wheel kiss, seen in Episode 9 (of the first season), "The Heights".

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A public park, right next to the marina - but not in Newport.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. You'll find Burton Chase Park in a very unusual place for a nice grassy park. Located at the very west end of Mindanao Way, it's perched right at the very end of a finger of land that extends out into the waters of Marina Del Rey, with boats docked around its edges.

As such, it makes for a very interesting (and unique) place to visit, with good views of the water, as well as green lawns, picnic tables, and even an interesting footbridge. It's just one street north of Fisherman's Village, and you can even see the village's landmark lighthouse from the edge of the park. In the summer, they offer a series of free concerts at the park.

Jimmy docked his boat in the waters next to the west side of the park, near the unusual footbridge. In those boat scenes, look closely and you'll see the green grass behind them, and even a glimpse of that footbridge.

Note: in the third season, they changed the location of Jimmy's boat dock. Click here to read about the new location.

The exact address is: 13650 Mindanao Way, in Marina Del Rey.

Here are some photos I shot of Burton Chase Park in 2006, including one view
showing the same table and footbridge that is visible in the screenshot above.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

    A. When I was looking at the scenes of Jimmy on his boat. I thought I caught a glimpse of green grass behind him, so I took a closer look. There aren't many places where you can find a green lawn next to a boat dock. I have been to Burton Chase Park in the past, so naturally it immediately came to mind. I printed out screenshots of the scenes, took them to the park, and matched up shots of the footbridge and the park bench to determine the boat's location (on the park's west side).
