Actual filming locations for the NBC TV series, "Awake".
This 2012 NBC show features 'Michael Britten' (Jason Isaacs), a man who lives
in two worlds -- and can't be sure which one is real, and which one is a dream.
In first world, his wife is alive and his son is dead.
In the second world, his son is alive, but his wife is dead.
He's a cop in both worlds, but has a different partner in each.
In the pilot episode, the plot revolves around the investigation of the murder
of a cab driver, in broad daylight, at the fictional address of 611 Waverly.
On the show, that is the address of Lowen's Restaurant & Bar.
In real life, this scene was shot at 612 S. Flower Street, at the
northeast corner of 6th and Flower, in downtown Los Angeles.
This is also the location of a later chase scene, where his young partner
(Wilmer Valderrama) shoots the bad guy, just as he's about to kill Michael.
Later in that first pilot episode, we see the Michael and his other partner (Steve Harris)
in a parking lot, under a bridge, with Michael trying to figure out what was parked
in space 611. He determines it was a trailer or RV, belonging to the deranged
man who has kidnapped a little girl.
This scene was shot under the Vincent Thomas bridge, which spans the
L.A. harbor channel between San Pedro and Terminal Island.
This is the west / San Pedro side of the bridge, which means the camera is looking south.
(How do I know? You can see the L.A. Cruise terminal in the background.
I was there recently, shooting photos of the terminal as a location for "Dexter".)
A later scene of them rescuing the young girl from the kidnapper's motor home...
was filmed in Griffith Park. That much is clear from the view of the downtown L.A.
skyline seen in the background, as they are creeping up on the trailer.
It's hard to pinpoint exactly where in the huge park, but somewhere near the
Griffith Park helipad (on Vista del Valle Drive) would seem to be a good guess.
Here is an aerial map of that Griffith helipad location.
In the second episode of "Awake", we finally get to see the exterior of the
Britten's family home, in a scene where the wife comes out of the house
to look at her son's motorcycle.
This is a real house, and the address is 10576 Cushdon Ave, in the Rancho Park
section of Los Angeles, about a mile southwest of Century City.
[ Warning This is a private home. Do not trespass on their property,
knock on their door, or do anything else that might disturb the residents.]
And speaking of the son's motorcycle, there's a scene in the second episode
where the mother discovers (from her son's friend) that her late son had
kept the motorcycle hidden in a garage unit at a self storage place.
That scene was shot at the West L.A. Mini-Storage, located at 5450 S. Slauson Ave (under the junction of the 405 Freeway
and the Marina Del Rey Freeway), in Culver City.
Michael finally talks to a confused homeless man, a witness to the killing.
He asks them for gum, then tells them that the murderer was "a little guy".
But the homeless man also rambles on about paranoid delusions,
convincing Michael's partner that the witness is crazy.
They shot this scene two blocks west of the fish market, at the northwest corner of
W. Martin Luther King Blvd & Denker Avenue, in the parking lot of a "Wash & Dry".
[ Warning: As you might guess from the scene, this may not be the safest neighborhood
in the world, so if you happen to go there, exercise reasonable caution. ]
