What is it supposed to be on the show?
Where is it supposed to be on the show?
When did we see it on the show?
A. In Episode 6, of Season 7, "Do the Wrong Thing".
that crime writer Sal Price is writing an exposé on Hannah
McKay, whom Dexter is stalking (he suspects her of several murders).
So in this scene, Dexter breaks into Price's house to find out what evidence he has managed to compile about Hannah.
Dexter checks out his computer first, and downloads all of Price's files onto a flash drive.
Then he takes a quick look at his paper files, noting that Price has one file on the Bay Harbor Butcher (Dexter).
He also seems to be preparing the manuscript of a book named "Poisonous Beauty: the Hannah McKay Story".
Hannah's file, Dexter finds evidence that Hannah probably poisoned the
former owner of her home (and nursery), in order to inherit the
In Episode 7, "Chemistry", Dexter returns to Price's house to gather his DNA, to use against him.
While there, he goes to Price's computer again, and shreds the documents Price had about Hannah McKay.
What is it actually in real life?
Where can I find it in real life?
A. This is at 5836 La Mirada Avenue, in Hollywood, just east of Bronson Ave.
It right across the street from the school they used as Isaak's prison.
And it's just two blocks north of the cemetery where they filmed the graveyard scenes with crazy Speltzer.
You don't really see much of the exterior of this house - it's mainly an interior scene.
And that's probably a good thing,
since the exterior has so many trees and plants in its front yard that
it's almost invisible from the road, as this Google StreetView shows you.
Fortunately, Rick shot some great, closeup photos of the house:
Warning: This is a private home. Do not trespass
on their property, knock on their door,
or do anything else that might disturb the residents. ]
Here is an aerial
photo of the location. Here is a Google StreetView. And here is a map
They also used this same house (in the 7th episode, "Chemistry") for the scenes of Laurie's home, the sister-in-law of Hannah McKay.
Debra goes to her house to convince her to allow the police to dig up the remains of her brother (Hannah's husband), to see if they can find proof that Hannah poisoned him. She agrees, but later it turns out that Hannah didn't have him embalmed, so they can't perform the tests.
They only used interiors for the Laurie scene, shot in different areas of the house (from when they were shooting the Sal Price scenes), and redecorated accordingly.
How the heck did you figure out where it was?
A. In the early seasons, I usually had to hunt down the locations after viewing the episodes,
using clues from the various scenes. By the now, though,
I've developed a small group of fans, spies & tipsters who kept an
eye out for Dexter filming in their neighborhoods, and would let me know
in advance when something was about to film there.
Between those reports, my own personal reconnaissance around town, and a
few new resources I discovered, by the time the first episode airs, I
already know most (but not all) of the filming locations, and only
need to watch the episodes and match up the scenes with the correct

This tip came from Rick, who also shot the photos you see above.
Rick also spotted the fact that this same place was used as Laurie's house, discovering some production photos online which showed the house being prepped for the shoots. (Thanks, Rick!)
