A. In Brunner Hall of Science, on the campus of Miami South University.
When did we see it on the show?
A. In Episode 9, of Season 6, "Get Gellar".
discovers that the Doomsday Killer's next victim (for his upcoming
"Bowls of Wrath" tableau), might be a controversial college professor
(Trent Casey), an evolutionary biologist who espouses atheism in his
So Dexter goes
to the professor's classroom to try to prevent the killing.
We see Dexter
sitting in the audience at one of the professor's lectures, while Casey pompously
lecture, Dexter approaches the professor and tries to warn him about the
danger, but Casey (accustomed to idle threats from lunatics) blows him off,
Ironically, the atheist professor's refusal to believe without proof costs him his life.
We see this same lecture hall later in the episode, after Casey has been killed by Doomsday.
Dexter attempts to head off the murderer by going to Casey's office at Scarnes Hall, but is trapped in an elevator until it is too late.
In the second scene, Dexter is
called to the crime scene, where he sees the professor's body laid out
on a table in his lecture hall.
has been drained, his right hand cut off, the familiar Alpha-Omega
symbol has been carved into his abdomen, and his insides hollowed out.
Worse, for the police, the
body has been booby-trapped.
When Masuka moves the corpse's arm, it results
in a sudden cascade of blood pouring down from the ceiling, drenching Dexter,
Debra, Angel, Masuka, and the others present.
What is it actually in real life?
A. A university auditorium.
Where can I find it in real life?
A. This is Beach Auditorium, in the University Student Union building, on the campus of California State University Long Beach (CSULB).
The address of CSULB is 1250 Bellflower Blvd in Long Beach, CA.
The University Student Union is located near the center of the CSULB campus, as you can see via this map (the building is marked USU). As Dexter walks towards the entrance of "Brunner Hall of Science" (a fake sign, of course), he is walking south, towards the north entrance to the building.
(The actual Hall of Science on campus is just a stone's throw to the southeast of the USU.)
As I've mentioned before, Dexter loves to cluster-shoot, and this season
they have used the CSULB campus for four different scenes: The Museum of Art scene, the University of Tallahassee scene, and two Miami South University scenes: this one and the later Scarnes Hall scene.
The photos below were shot (during the filming) by Jessica Mathers:
And Jessica even managed to capture a shot of star
Michael C. Hall on his way into the building:
And as you can see, filming continued into the night.

A. In previous seasons, I've
usually had to hunt down the locations after viewing the episodes,
using clues from the various scenes. By the 6th season, though,
I'd developed a small group of fans, spies & tipsters who kept an
eye out for Dexter filming in their neighborhoods, and would let me know
in advance when something was about to film there.
Between those reports, my own personal reconnaissance around town, and a
few new resources I discovered, by the time the first episode aired, I
already knew most (but not all) of the filming locations, and only
needed to watch the episodes and match up the scenes with the correct

During the filming on the CSULB campus, Jason Z emailed me, to let me know about both the earlier
art museum and Tallahassee scenes, as well as this MSU scene. Jason sent me the photos you
see above, which were shot by his girlfriend, Jessica Mathers, a CSULB employee and former student.
(Thanks Jason & Jessica!)
