The location: Doakes' Funeral Church.

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. A church.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. Somewhere in Miami.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. In Episode 12 (of Season 2), "The British Invasion".

This is a very brief scene at the end of the final episode, part of a montage of closing events.

Dexter has successfully framed Sgt. Doakes as the "Bay Harbor Butcher", and Doakes has died in a fiery explosion at the cabin, caused by crazy Lila, convincing everyone but LaGuerta that he was an infamous serial killer.

In this scene, we see his funeral.  The church is empty of mourners, except for a weeping Maria LaGuerta and Doakes' mother and two sisters.

Dexter watches from the back of the church, noting that nobody mourns the wicked, and thinks about how Harry kept him safe with his Code.

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. An actual church, but far from Miami.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. In real life, it is the Rolling Hills United Methodist Church, at 26438 Crenshaw Blvd, in Rolling Hills Estates, CA (in the Palos Verdes hills).

It is located just past (south of) the botanical garden & lake where they built the cabin where Doakes was held prisoner (and where he died), on the same (east) side of the street, near the corner of Crenshaw and Palos Verdes Drive North.

The shots looking towards the altar were shot with the camera looking north/northwest.

It's not easy to see the church from the road, since that section of Crenshaw is lined by large Canary Island pine trees. In fact, it was hard for me to get a photo of it. I had to park in the church lot behind the church, then hike around to the front of the building, but even then, the front is so close to a small tree-laden slope that it was difficult to step back far enough to fit the church steeple into my shot. (Fortunately, my camera had a wide-angle lens).

Here is an aerial photo of the church. And here is a map link.

I shot the photo below in 2009

[ Important: This is a house of worship.  If you choose to visit, respect the sanctity of the church. ]
