What is it supposed to be on the show?
Where is it supposed to be on the show?
When did we see it on the show?
A. In Episode 10, of Season 7, "The Dark... Whatever".
Hannah's disreputable father, Clint, shows up unexpectedly, and in this scene Dexter meets them for lunch.
some general banter, it's clear that the estranged father &
daughter are getting along surprisingly well, and Hannah is warming up

Hannah believes him, and is excited and proud that he has finally gotten his act together.
it's all a show. In a later scene, he tries to hit Hannah up for
$20,000 for that supposed crawfish farm. (In reality, he just
wants to pay off gambling debts.)
she says she doesn't have it, he suggests she mortgage her home.
When she won't, he becomes angry, rams her greenhouse with his truck,
screams viciously at her, and later threatens to tell the police about
a witness who could put her in prison.
(Not surprisingly, Dexter kills him.)
What is it actually in real life?
Where can I find it in real life?
A. This is the Mirage Cafe, at 539 E. Bixby Road, in Long Beach, CA.
It's the same place where they filmed the earlier sidewalk café scene of Debra having lunch with Sal Price. Only they shot that scene outside (in front) and they filmed this scene inside the restaurant.
And (appropriately enough) it's only a few blocks east of Hannah's house.
They used the interior of this restaurant once before: back in the second season, where it played Anton & Debra's café.
You can find the Mirage café online, here.
I shot the photo below in 2011.
Here is a Google StreetView of the café. Here Bing aerial photo, and here is a map link.
Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?
A. In the early seasons, I usually had to hunt down the locations after viewing the episodes,
using clues from the various scenes. By the now, though,
I've developed a small group of fans, spies & tipsters who kept an
eye out for Dexter filming in their neighborhoods, and would let me know
in advance when something was about to film there.
Between those reports, my own personal reconnaissance around town, and a
few new resources I discovered, by the time the first episode airs, I
already know most (but not all) of the filming locations, and only
need to watch the episodes and match up the scenes with the correct
This group of helpful fans includes Rick, Ellen, Elaine, Mia, Joel, Susan, Eric, Jeff, Kerry & others. My thanks to all of
me to this one. My first hunch was that it was probably just a
studio shot, since it was strictly interior. But the lighting seemed a
little too dark for the studio (where they can perfectly control such
things). Rick pointed out that the photos of the Mirage website
matched the scene, and they did, especially the low maroon booths, and
the corner where an aqua blue wall meets a pale yellow wall...
