What is it supposed to be on the show?
Where is it supposed to be on the show?
When did we see it on the show?
A. In Episode
1, of Season 6, "Those Kinds of Things".
Angel and his younger sister (Jamie) enter what looks like a Mexican or
Cuban restaurant, which his sister refers to as "fancy".
After being seated, Angel tells her about his upcoming promotion to lieutenant (which La Guerta promised him).
sister takes off her sweater, and Angel, being an overly protective big
brother, overreacts at her modest display of skin.
embarrassed that she now looks (in his words) "all sexualized", and feels compelled to tell
the waitress that she isn't his girlfriend.
His sister is both amused and irritated, and she tells him that he is exactly like her father.
What is it actually in real life?
Where can I find it in real life?
A. This is El Torito Mexican restaurant.
Despite what Jamie says, it's not a particularly fancy restaurant, but rather part of a large chain of nice, family restaurants in Southern California. (You can find their website here.
This particular El Torito is located in the MarketPlace center, at 6605 Pacific Coast Highway, in Long Beach, CA.
That's on the east/NE side of PCH, just south/SE of 2nd Street.
It's across the street from the Seaport Marina Hotel they used in the 4th season as Dexter & Trinity's hotel in Tampa.
It's also just half a mile south of Loynes Drive, where they
filmed the fruit vendor murder scene this season. It's close to the restaurant/bar where they filmed Debra's shoot-out.
And it's a similar distance from the neighborhood & golf course they used as the Tooth Fairy's retirement village, in Episode 3.
Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?
A. In previous seasons, I've
usually had to hunt down the locations after viewing the episodes,
using clues from the various scenes. By the 6th season, though,
I'd developed a small group of fans, spies & tipsters who kept an
eye out for Dexter filming in their neighborhoods, and would let me know
in advance when something was about to film there.
Between those reports, my own personal reconnaissance around town, and a
few new resources I discovered, by the time the first episode aired, I
already knew most (but not all) of the filming locations, and only
needed to watch the episodes and match up the scenes with the correct

me about this one. Since I've dined at this El Torito on more
than one occasion, I'd like to think that I would have recognized it on
my own, but I'm not 100% sure that I would have. (Thanks, Rick!)
