Marvel's Agents of SHIELD - Filming Locations: Boat kidnapping

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD

The Southern California locations where Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is filmed.

Episode 2, of Season 3 ("Purpose in the Machine")

About 15 minutes into the episode, we see Ward (and his Hydra underling)
using binoculars to watch a boat (the Typhon II) docked at a marina.

On board the boat, there's a small party going on, as a rich young man,
Werner Von Strucker,
entertains a trio of bikinied girls.

Grant Ward is interested because this young man is the heir of Baron Von Strucker,
a Nazi and former head of Hydra. Since Ward wants to become the new leader of
Hydra, he thinks he can use the kid's lineage to open doors for himself.

But since the kid is a frivolous playboy, Ward is determined to turn
him into something stronger and more suitable to his plans.

After scaring off the party-goers by releasing a sack of rats onto the boat,
Ward boards the vessel, single-handedly defeats half a dozen security men,
and then kidnaps young Werner Von Strucker.

Naturally, this isn't really Spain.  Like the vast majority of scenes
in S.H.I.E.L.D., it was filmed right here in Southern California.

This boat scene was shot at Burton Chase Park,
13650 Mindanao Way, in Marina Del Rey, CA.

. You'll find Burton Chase Park in a very unusual place for a nice, grassy park. Located at the
very west end of Mindanao Way, it's perched right at the very tip of a finger of land that
extends out into the waters of Marina Del Rey, with boats docked around its edges.

As such, it makes for a very interesting place to visit, with good views of the water,
as well as green lawns, picnic tables, and even an interesting footbridge.

(You can see the park's trees behind Ward in the screencap below.)

The boat was docked at the park's southwest corner, in Basin H,
with its bow pointed east/northeast.

The park is just one channel north of Fisherman's Village, and you can even see the
village's landmark blue & white lighthouse from the edge of the park. In fact,
if you look very closely, you can see that blue & white lighthouse
behind the girls in the second screencap from the top.

Here is a Google StreetView of the east end of the park.
