Located right across the street from the Crossroads of the World center on Sunset Boulevard, the folks at Designer Donuts are caterers to many of the nearby movie studios. They've served their fancy, exotic, gourmet donuts to the casts & crews of such TV shows as "Bob Newhart," "Dallas," "Moonlighting," "Cheers," "Family Ties," "Perfect Strangers," "Beauty & The Beast," etc.
Then again, if you look at the north wall of the shop, you'll spot plenty of stars - the wall is lined with 8x10 autographed photos of their happy celebrity customers, including Ed Asner, Angela Lansbury, and Leonardo DiCaprio.
(There's also an interesting Hollywood story behind Designer Donuts... Back in 1968, a young Steven Spielberg received a $10,000 loan from Designer Donuts founder Denis Hoffman, money Spielberg needed to complete his first film, a 20-minute short titled "Amblin" (which is now also the name of Steven's production company).. Later, in 1985, Spielberg lent Hoffman the money he needed to begin Designer Donuts, and became a limited partner in the gourmet donut business. In 1995, though, the two were involved in a nasty lawsuit over the contracts.)
Be aware that Designer
Donuts has rather unusual hours. It's closed on Saturdays and Sundays,
and on weekdays it is open only fron 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.
