The location: Ramon Prado's Bar.

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. A bar.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. Somewhere in Miami.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. In Episode 4 (of Season 3), "All in the Family".

Dexter is trying to convince Miguel Prado that Ramon Prado, Miguel's hostile brother, is untrustworthy.
So he begins a rather elaborate frame-up.

First, he places an anonymous phone call to Ramon, pretending to be an informant who has seen Freebo.

He tells Ramon to meet him at a bar to get the information (knowing that Ramon has a drinking problem), and asks him to order him a rum & coke (knowing that is Ramon's favorite drink).

    Then he stands him up.

After enough time has passed for Ramon to get drunk & rowdy, Dexter goes to Miguel and tells him that he wants Miguel to share their secret (about killing Freebo) with Ramon.

Miguel is somewhat hesitant, but at Dexter's urging, he phones him and sure enough, Ramon is still waiting at the bar and is obviously drunk and hostile. Miguel looks disgusted.

As the scene begins, Dexter & Miguel enter the room, and they find Ramon sitting at the bar, drunk and complaining that the bartender won't sell him another drink.

When Miguel offers to drive him home, Ramon reacts angrily and creates a small scene.

Dexter seizes on the situation by going to a bouncer and lying to him, telling him that Ramon grabbed a girl and that he thinks he saw a gun. He then steps outside and watches through a window as Ramon reacts predictably when the bouncer approaches him. Ramon take a swing at the guy, and is quickly pinned to the bar.

The next scene we see is one of a depressed Miguel alone sitting on the beach. Dexter's plan has worked. Miguel is now convinced that his brother can't be trusted, and that he is losing him as a friend.

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A restaurant & sports bar.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. This scene was filmed at Springbok Bar & Grille, a South African-inspired restaurant & sports bar at Shoreline Village, in Long Beach.

It's housed in a pointy-roofed yellow building, near the middle of the east-west boardwalk that runs between the Village and the Shoreline marina.

Shoreline Village is a colorful, tourist-oriented shopping & dining village that shares the area with the nearby Aquarium of the Pacific, Rainbow Harbor, Shoreline Aquatic Park and (across the bay) the Queen Mary.

The Springbok is right next to the boardwalk area where the producers earlier created the imaginary "Sandra's at the Point" cafe (for the confrontation between Dexter and the child stalker).

And it's just a short walk east to Tequila Jack's, where they've filmed a number of Dexter scenes.

Springbok also has its own website. (Don't confuse this Long Beach branch with its other branch in the Valley.)

Here is an aerial photo of the location. And here is a map link.

The area is very close to where they filmed many other Dexter scenes this season, including the second Skinner killing, Prado's Cuban Festival, the Wendell Owens murder scene, and the bachelor party cruise ship.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

    A. This could have been tricky, because they only show the interior bar area (which is dark), not the restaurant's exterior.

But fortunately, my pal Tim Grobaty (award-winning columnist for the Long Beach Press-Telegram) mentioned in his daily column that "Dexter" was filming at the Springbok. So naturally, when the show aired, I kept an eye out for it.

It still took a little online research to make sure - finding photos that perfectly matched the interior shown in the scene. And the shot where Dexter steps outdoors offers a good clear shot of those decorative white columns that can be found right outside of the Springbok. Finally, I went there in person to shoot the photos you see above.
