DEXTER Filming Locations - hundreds of actual places where the TV show Dexter was filmed.

The location: Peter Grant's House

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. A private home.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. On Palmetto Glen Road, in Coral Gables, Florida.

But they gave two different street numbers on the show: 1234 (on his magazine label) and 2033 (on his boat registration).

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. In Episode 10, of Season 6, "Ricochet Rabbit".

Dexter knows that Travis will try to kill Holly Benson (the abducted woman whom he  released). So Dexter's trying to get to her before Travis does.

He first goes to Holly's apartment, but she has gone into hiding.

While there, Dexter finds photos of her boyfriend and his address.  His name is Peter Grant.

So, in this scene, he goes to Peter Grant's home.  It's a large, stately house, with expensive cars parked out front.

But when the door opens, Dexter doesn't encounter Peter, but instead, his teenage daughter, who is throwing a raucous pool party.

She tells him that her father is out somewhere ("Spain, Portugal..."), and can't be reached.

Dexter asks is she knows where Holly might be.

She calls Holly a "slampig", then tells him that she might be on her dad's yacht.

But she doesn't know where it is. ("On the water somewhere?")

Dexter next goes online to a social website ("FriendZone") and looks at Holly's personal photos.  One of them shows her and Peter Grant aboard the Ricochet Rabbit.

A trip to a guard's shack at the marina allows him to track down the yacht's location.

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A private home.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. This house is located at 201 Hillside Road, South Pasadena, CA.

It's a 7 bedroom, 7 bath Mediterranean built in 1926, and is valued at over $5 million, located just north of the Pasadena (110) Freeway.

This is one of the few times Dexter has filmed in the Pasadena area.

Earlier this season, they used a South Pasadena house as Jonah Mitchell's Nebraska home. (It's about two miles southeast of this mansion.)

And in the same episode, they shot the scene of Harry hitchiking in north Pasadena.

Before that, you have to go back to the third season, when they used a Pasadena mansion as the house that Lila & Dexter broke into to make love.  It was about four miles east of this location.

And that same season, they used another Pasadena mansion for a poolside murder scene.

Here's a photo of the house, from a real estate listing:

[Warning: This is a private home.  Do not trespass on their property,
    knock on their door
, or do anything that might disturb the residents
    .]

Here is an aerial photo of the location.  Here is a Google StreetView.  And here is a map link.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

A.  In previous seasons, I've usually had to hunt down the locations after viewing the episodes, using clues from the various scenes.  By the 6th season, though, I'd developed a small group of fans, spies & tipsters who kept an eye out for Dexter filming in their neighborhoods, and would let me know in advance when something was about to film there.

Between those reports, my own personal reconnaissance around town, and a few new resources I discovered, by the time the first episode aired, I already knew most (but not all) of the filming locations, and only needed to watch the episodes and match up the scenes with the correct locations.

This group of helpful fans includes Kerry, Rick, Ellen, Susan, Jason, Elaine, Joel, Julie, Geoff, Jeff, Jen, and others. My thanks to all of them.

This was a tip from Rick, who let me know they were filming there. (Thanks, Rick!)
