Dexter stops at this motel during his trip to Nebraska (to hunt down Jonah Mitchell).
The motel borders on a corn field, where Dexter discovers that marijuana is being grown.
The motel owner (Norm) behind the desk - who is responsible for the pot
in the corn field - is the nosy kind, and seems suspicious of Dexter from
He agrees to fix a flat tire for Dexter, and eventually discovers Dexter's killing tools.
He tries to blackmail Dexter into paying $10,000. When he pulls a gun, Dexter kills him with a pitchfork (American Gothic pun and all), and disposes of his body in a nearby silo full of grain.
What is it actually in real life?

Where can I find it in real life?
A. The bunk house is located at 5809 E. La Falda Way (just south of Camino del Rio), in Piru, CA.
That's up in the Newhall area, about 8 miles west of Six Flags Magic Mountain.
This is the first time that Dexter has ever filmed anything in Piru. (Although "True Blood" used both a church there and a cafe.)
The only time that they ventured this far north before was the first season, when they shot the scene of Dexter's forgotten family home. And that was far east of this spot. (Ironically, that scene also involved his evil brother Brian.)
But finding places in L.A. that can pass for Nebraska is no easy task.
So, while they were in the Newhall area, they also filmed at a corn field, on country roads, and at a market.
A. In previous seasons, I've
usually had to hunt down the locations after viewing the episodes,
using clues from the various scenes. By the 6th season, though,
I'd developed a small group of fans, spies & tipsters who kept an
eye out for Dexter filming in their neighborhoods, and would let me know
in advance when something was about to film there.
Between those reports, my own personal reconnaissance around town, and a
few new resources I discovered, by the time the first episode aired, I
already knew most (but not all) of the filming locations, and only
needed to watch the episodes and match up the scenes with the correct
This group of helpful fans includes Kerry, Rick, Ellen, Susan, Jason, Elaine, Joel, Julie, Geoff, Jeff, Jen, and others. My thanks to all of them.
Rick gave me this one, thank God. This was so far off the beaten track for Dexter that
it would have been a huge pain to try to track down, especially since
there's no StreetView in that area. I confirmed it by finding the
photos you see above on a website about Newhall filming opportunities. Which saved me a long drive to Piru. (Thanks, Rick!)
