Dexter
stops at this convenience store in Missouri, on his way to Kearny, Nebraska (where he
plans to kill Jonah Mitchell).
He buys some nachos, and overhears the cute local girl working behind the
counter talking about sex (over the phone) with her boyfriend.
Dexter's
accompanied by his imaginary big brother, Brian (the Ice Truck Killer),
who urges him to kill the girl.
Instead,
Dexter has sex with her in the back room, and (while she's busy getting
dressed afterward) steals the gun hidden behind her counter on his way
out.
He uses it to shoot up the scenery as he and Brian continue their road trip to Kearny.
A. This scene was shot at a convenience store that is part of Valencia Travel Village, an RV resort located at 27946 Henry Mayo Drive, in Castaic, CA.
This RV campground not only
includes the market seen on the show, but it also offers travelers
swimming pools, tennis & volleyball courts, a playground,
horseshoes, shuffleboard, a laundry, and showers - plus spots to hook up
almost 400 RV's.
It's located about three miles
northwest of Six Flags Magic Mountain, and is about seven miles east of
the Nebraska motel and cornfield seen later in this episode.
A. In previous seasons, I've
usually had to hunt down the locations after viewing the episodes,
using clues from the various scenes. By the 6th season, though,
I'd developed a small group of fans, spies & tipsters who kept an
eye out for Dexter filming in their neighborhoods, and would let me know
in advance when something was about to film there.
Between those reports, my own personal reconnaissance around town, and a
few new resources I discovered, by the time the first episode aired, I
already knew most (but not all) of the filming locations, and only
needed to watch the episodes and match up the scenes with the correct
locations.
This group of helpful fans includes Kerry, Rick, Ellen, Susan, Jason, Elaine, Joel, Julie, Geoff, Jeff, Jen, and others. My thanks to all of them.
In this case, it was Susan Loomis who told me, back on August 4, that
her her mother-in-law spotted them filming here at Valencia Travel
Village. So when it turned up on the show, that distinctive red
building was easy to recognize. (Thanks, Suzi!)
