DEXTER Filming Locations - over a hundred actual places where the TV show Dexter was filmed.

The location: Jordan Chase's office

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. The offices of Jordan Chase, a motivational speaker - and a serial killer.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. On the 24th floor of a high-rise in Miami.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. We first see it in Episode 9, of Season 5, "Teenage Wasteland".

Dexter is stalking Chase, trying to find evidence against him, so he allows Chase to "help" him, via sessions at his office.

Dexter has just finished a workout with Chase in his gym, and Chase tells him to make an appointment with his receptionist for his next session.

We next see Dexter in the lobby, its walls plastered with Jordan Chase posters, a large window revealing a sweeping aerial view of the landscape below.

Dexter notices the presence of a number of burly security guards in the lobby, and asks the receptionist about it. She says that "Mr. Chase says he's beefing things up".

Dexter knows why: he and Lumen have been knocking off Chase's friends one by one.

We see the offices again near the end of the same episode, when Chase phones Lumen.

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. An office lobby on the 24th floor of a high-rise.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. These scenes were shot on the 24th floor of the Long Beach World Trade Center.

The official address is 1 World Trade Center, Long Beach, CA.

But the street, "World Trade Center", is actually just the south end of Daisy Avenue, which is renamed (for two blocks only) once it passes Broadway. And it's not even a real street here, it just leads down to the Center's underground parking garage.

The skyscraper actually faces Ocean Blvd, on the north side of that boulevard, at approximately 620 W. Ocean Blvd.

The 30-story tower was built in 1989, and it is the tallest building in Long Beach.

It's just a few blocks west of the gas station where Barry gets busted by the cops, and the Roadside Cafe where Dexter beats up Barry.

It's just also near the bar where Angel got into a fight, the moving van rental place, and the sting motel where Angel thought Maria was cheating on him.

I shot the photo below in November 2010:
(we are looking west down Ocean Blvd).

Here is an aerial photo of the World Trade Center. And here is a map link.

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

    A.  In previous seasons, I've usually had to hunt down the locations after viewing the episodes, using clues from the various scenes.  By the 5th season, though, I'd developed a small group of fans, spies & tipsters who kept an eye out for Dexter filming in their neighborhoods, and would let me know in advance when something was about to film there.

Between those reports, and my own personal reconnaissance around town, by the time the first episode aired, I already knew most (but not all) of the filming locations, and only needed to watch the episodes and match up the scenes with the correct locations.

This group of helpful fans includes Kerry, Rick, Joel, Geoff, Ellen, Julie, Susan, Jeff, and others. My thanks to all of them.

This particular tip came from both Rick and from Long Beach Press-Telegram columnist Tim Grobaty.
    (Thanks, Rick & Tim!)

It was easy to verify. The view seen out the windows includes the nearby Queensway Bridge, the Maya Hotel, the Residence Inn, and the Catalina cruise terminals - as well as more industrial parts of the Port.

Here's that view, with the landmarks labeled:
