location: Elliott's house
What is it supposed to be on the show?
A. A residential
Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?
A. Next door to Dexter & Rita's house on Meadow Lane, in Miami.
Q. When did we see it on the show?
A. In the 4th Season, this is the home of Elliott, Dexter & Rita's next-door neighbor. As such, the house was glimpsed throughout the season in some of the shots of Dexter's house.
When looking at Dexter's house straight-on, Elliott's home is located just to the right of Dexter's. It is a larger, two-story, Mediterranean-style home.
We got a decent view of the house in Episode 1 ("Living the Dream") when Dexter & Rita are out in their front yard and they talk to Elliott about car pooling.
Dexter walks across Elliott's lawn after he escapes the Neighborhood Watch patrol in Episode 3, "Blinded By The Light", and smashes his newly-installed (and very bright) security lights.
(In that same episode, the neighborhood BBQ/pool party appears to take place in Elliott's back yard, but in fact they shot that at a completely different address.)
The house played a more important role in Episode 9, "Hungry Man", during a Thanksgiving dinner, when Rita went to Elliott's house to use his oven, and Elliott seized the opportunity to kiss Rita. (This was observed, through a window, by Vince Masuka, who was shocked to see it, and spent a lot of time trying to work up the courage to tell Dexter what he had seen.)
And we saw the house again, in Episode 11 ("Hello, Dexter Morgan"), when Dexter punched out Elliott on the front porch.
In Episode 1 of Season 5 ("My Bad"), we see the home again when Quinn talks to Elliott, following Rita's death. Quinn has found out about the kiss, and Elliott tells him that Dexter punched him out.
Elliott shows up again in Episode 9 ("Teenage Wasteland"), when
he reports seeing a stranger near the house, driving a white van, and Dexter
assumes Astor has been abducted.
Q. What is it actually in real life?
A. A residential home, just nowhere near Miami.
Q. Where can I find it in real life?
A. The house is at 3329 E. 1st Street, in Long Beach, CA.
That's right next to (east of) Dexter's home, of course.
It's on the north side of street, between Coronado Ave (on the west) and Redondo Ave (on the east), in the Bluff Park section of Long Beach, just a block inland from the beach.
It's about three miles southeast of Shoreline Village (a major filming location in past seasons) and about a mile northwest of the Belmont Pier area.
As you probably know by now, they film a lot in Long Beach. The house is just a few blocks south of Trinity's school, and about half a mile southwest of the gas station. It's bout three miles southeast of the plaza where Lundy first bumped into the Trinity Killer, and about a mile southwest of the park where they found Miguel Prado's body in the last episode of the previous (3rd) season.
( It should
be noted that they occasionally mix in scenes shot in other areas
when they are supposedly in Dexter's neighborhood, such as those Neighborhood
Watch chase scenes, which were filmed in another Long Beach neighborhood,
far from Bluff Park. )
I shot the photos below in December 2009.
Warning: This is a private home. Do not trespass
on their property, knock on their door,
Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?
easiest one ever - it's the house next door to Dexter's!
